Anyone planning a trip requiring a passport should check the passbook to see if it needs more pages. These can be ordered and received with time left to spare before the trip, avoiding a potentially stressful situation.

When the passbook contains only two to four blank pages, it is time to get a refill. If the passbook is not due for renewal, the holder will need to have more blank sheets added to the current document. Those who do not travel frequently must remember to complete this task well in advance of embarking on an international trip.

Requesting additional sheets is not a complicated process and it can be done in several ways at varying costs. The passbook holder should go to the Web site for the Department of State and download form DS-4085. This form may be printed and legibly completed by hand or it may be filled out online and then printed. Mail is the only way to submit the completed form because electronic means are not currently accepted.

Passport holders who do not have access to a computer with Internet service will need to visit a local Passport Agency or the site of an Acceptance Facility to obtain form DS-4085. Both this form and the U.S. passport will need to be mailed to the government in order to get the additional passport pages. This is where the different costs come into play.. Having the information processed by the government using its standard service will not cost the passbook holder anything. The only charge will be for a traceable mail delivery service that the government recommends.

The government is currently working within a four to six week turnaround time for processing additional sheets. If a passbook holder needs the updated document within two to three weeks, he or she can pay a $60.00 fee for expedited government processing. To ensure that the item is provided expedited handling, “expedite” should be written on the outside of the envelope. The package should be sent using an overnight mail service.

Travelers who are especially crunched for time should consider using a private company to speed the process of getting additional sheets for the passbook. These services can return the updated passbook to the traveler within two business days or less. However, getting this rush processing will cost the traveler several hundred dollars plus shipping charges, in addition to the $60.00 government expedited processing fee.

The forms required by the private company include the DS-4085, an authorization document, and possibly proof of travel. The authorization form serves as verification that the passbook holder has allowed the private company to handle the processing of the documents directly with the government. Proof of travel is required only of those who request less than a seven business day turnaround for the passbook. It includes either a verification letter from an employer regarding business travel, travel itinerary, or copy of the plane ticket.

The process of getting new United States passport pages is not complicated, but it does require some time. It is best that a passbook holder complete and submit the DS-4085 form and passbook to the government as soon as the need for additional sheets is discovered. Expedited government processing or use of the rush service provided by a private company are alternatives that will shorten the processing time.

With the cell phone, laptop, and internet everywhere, it is easy to assume that everything back at work is urgent.

    Most of it isn’t.

    The decision or mental "tug" to work while on vacation is about the urgent things in life. Your family (or your vacation in general) is quite likely more important to you, but it is the perceived urgency of the work that draws us back in. Remember what is really important to you. During a vacation is an especially good time to remain focused on the important; and not the merely urgent things in our lives.

    Remove the Distractions

    Leave your phone in the room; your Blackberry will be just fine in the drawer. If you leave the gadgets in your room all day instead of carrying them with you everywhere you go, you’ll be far less likely to check your messages while you’re in line for the ride or sitting by the beach.

    Communicate Clearly

    If you do have to work at all while on vacation, set boundaries and gain agreement with your traveling companions. If there is a particular thing that you have to do, let everyone know what it is – they will more likely support you if they know about it and how important and/or time critical it is. Then do only that thing! Don’t use that as an "opening" to work as much as you feel you need to.

    Segment Your Time

    I am writing this as the rest of my family sleeps. This allows me to be fully engaged in my vacation, and still finish something that truly needs to be done. If you must work, budget the time tightly, and do it when it least impacts those important people with you.

    Have a Plan

    Have a plan at work before you leave. Change your voice mail and email announcement to let people know you aren’t in touch for several days. This will leave you with fewer urgent items on your return, and lower your anxiety level while you are gone.

    Potential Principle – When you are on vacation, you need to be on vacation! Recognize that while your work may be urgent, your vacation and the people you are spending it with are truly important. Keeping this in mind will help you have the vacation you deserve.

    Disney Theme Parks Give Guests "The Year of a Million Dreams"

    For 15 months that began last October, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts are focusing their efforts on celebrating the dreams of their guests by awarding them randomly with surprise dream gifts.

    Thousands of guests to Disney Parks are entering an entirely new dream world every day, thanks to a spectacular Disney event. From October 2006 through the end of 2007, the Disney parks Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort and California’s Disneyland Resortare sponsoring a celebration titled "The Year of a Million Dreams." The awe-inspiring event will result in literally millions of dreams coming true for millions of people who visit the parks.

    "Our guests the world over have told us they believe a Disney park is the place ‘where dreams come true’ and that something magical happens when they walk through our gates," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "And that’s never been more true than during The Year of a Million Dreams, as we bring more magic to live than ever before."

    During the celebration, extra-special dreams are being awarded randomly as part of the unique Disney Dreams Giveaway. Guests may feel as though they’ve been tapped on the shoulder by a fairy godmother’s wand or sprinkled with pixie dust, when they find themselves the recipients of fantastic dream packages such as spending the night in a royal suite inside Cinderella Castle. Or being invited to serve as a parade grand marshal in each Disney theme park around the world. Or spending the night in a new Mickey Mouse Penthouse overlooking Disneyland in California.

    Walt Disney Vacation Packages Rasulo and his staff have worked hard to provide a magical experience for all guest to their parks, to celebrate the dreams that make them smile, make their imaginations soar, fulfill their fantasies, and help to ensure their own personal "happily ever after." Some guests may receive memberships in Disney Vacation Clubs, and others may be given Disney gift bags containing exclusive theme park pins and Mickey mouse ears.

    Other amazing "dreams come true" include magical Disney Cruise Line sailing trips, a private shopping spree for Disney merchandise, Adventures by Disney vacations, special after-hours events at a Disney park, or even a visit to Walk Disney’s apartment at Disneyland, including dinner. Dreams are awarded every single day at both parks and Downtown Disney. All it takes to win one of these fabulous dreams is a simple tap on the shoulder by a cast member of a special Disney Dream Squad.

    For the overnight stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite in Florida, a guest to Downtown Disney or the Walt Disney World park will be selected randomly each afternoon beginning in late January. The selected guest will be invited to bring up to five members of their party to spend that evening at Cinderella’s Royal Table, the restaurant located in Cinderella Castle. Then the selected party will be invited to spend the night in the Cinderella Castle Suite.

    If you aren’t going to be in a Disney park this year, you can still participate in the celebration through a mail-in entry on the Disney Parks website. Mail-in winners could receive prizes such as a Disney Vacation Club membership or a Disney gift bag. Some prizes, such as the Mickey Mouse Penthouse stay and the Cinderella Castle overnight package, require same-day use for park visitors, so mail-in winners will be given a prize of comparable value.

    Thousands of regular Disney park cast members will be making their world-famous guest service even more friendly by personally interacting with park guests and giving them special surprises. For instance, guests might be asked to help lead the countdown and sprinkle pixie dust to open a Disney park in the morning. They might be riding Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel and suddenly spot a Disney princess seated on the horse next to them. They might be selected to be a guest of honor in a daily park parade, or be an official wildlife spotter on a Disney’s Animal Kingdom safari.

    Invitations to participate in the immersive entertainment venues at the Disney parks might result in guest being able to enter into magical worlds they’ve only dreamed about. A guest might be asked to join in the dancing and singing "High School Musical" pep rally, or live the buccaneer life by being a pirate of the Caribbean. Guests at Walt Disney World Resort might be given the chance to saddle up with Woody and the Disney*Pixar folks. At Disneyland Resort in California, guests to the Jedi Training Academy might be given a lightsaber to do battle with Darth Vader.

    "Disney cast members have a rich history of making this magic, treating guests to legendary service and special moments," Rasulo said. "During ‘The Year of a Million Dreams,’ those moments go stratospheric as our cast members reinforce Disney parks as the place where dreams come true."
