Guests with visual disabilities are able to explore Walt Disney World theme parks through an enhanced Disney-designed device that provides detailed audio description of outdoor areas. Via an interactive audio menu, the newly enhanced Assistive Technology Device lets guests choose the type of information they would like to receive about outdoor areas, from architectural elements to the location of the nearest restroom. The Handheld Assistive Device is offered at no cost with a refundable deposit. Kid reporter Mindy Strater interviews Greg Johnson, technology coordinator for the Assistive Technology device; Larry Goldberg, director of Media Access Group at WGBH in Boston; and Jeanie, a visually impaired guest at Walt Disney World. Video shot and edited by Jimmy Strater.

7This is why I LOVE Disney so much, they always put the guest first and are always coming up with new ways to make their experiences more magical and fun. At Disney, NO ONE is left out and I love them for that.

8@emillyyx It’s probably like their wheelchairs. They require a deposit that you’ll get back at the end when you turn it in.

13this is such a fantastic move by Disney. I was really inspired by this as i have just come home from a 2 week holiday out there. I had the time of my life and im so pleased those who are not as lucky as i am and are visually handicapped can still enjoy the magic of disney. Just Fantastic!

14How do you find the dispenser for the device if your Blind? I highly doubt it would be any fun to visit any amusement park, especially one as busy as Disney. And how do any descriptions help if you were born blind. How do you even know what they are describing? I think this is a fail in some degree…
